Maria NAMIIRO is Miss Uganda UK 2009

Maria Namiiro who was both the judges choice and the crowd’s favourite is the new Miss Uganda UK 2009. She overcame various obstacles to be crowned on Saturday 13th June 09 at the grade II listed building Troxy. An  upmarket venue that has hosted various prestigious events like the Miss England beauty contest. For the first time ever in the history of a UK beauty event has there been so many Ugandans present. She wins a modelling contract with Mahogany Model Management, cash prizes, a modelling portfolio by Martin Kuria Photography, she becomes an ambassador for Latitude Care Network, face of Brenda Maraka, and an automatic entry to Miss Uganda for Miss World 2009 Grand Finale in Kampala on 26th Sept 2009. To be held at The Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala. She will be leaving for Kampala in July for charity work on behalf of LCN.

The answer she gave to her question was outstanding “What is the one thing (revolutionary) that has happened in the world in the last 10 years?” “The introduction of an instant HIV testing kit through Saliva was Maria’s answer,” to the cheers of the crowd. There were 15 finalists, 8 went through to the final round for questioning. The 1st princess was Nancy Tamwesigire and 2nd Princess was Brandie Arombo. They were both outstanding and both will be in the directory of Mahogany Model Management. They also win cash prizes and portfolios. Our work with the contestants doesn’t stop there. We will keep you updated on the developments of all our Miss Uganda UK 2009 events, contestants, winner, runners up, artists and performers. The website will be updated shortly.

The event was hosted by Nancy Kitaka and Yiannis Morgan and performances by a host of Ugandan artistes based in the UK like Chizzo, Caster P, Paddy Dee and the Boyz, N£lly, Mc Moseh, Fyonna, Elite ac. Others included Angel J, Zack Milk, Plakamille and traditional performances by African Cultural Development and The LCN traditional dancers. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to LCN.

Apologies for the late door opening at The Final Event at Troxy. This was due to a health and safety precaution as the fire exit door on the VIP upper floor was unexpectedly not working. This was later rectified and customers who were meant to be seating upstairs were redirected to the ground floor VIP. We  already have improvements in place to ensure this doesn’t not happen again. The health and safety of our customers is of paramount importance. We would like to thank everyone for their patience.

Performance Production Ltd the organisers of Miss Uganda UK as well as the licence holder for Miss Uganda for Miss World would like to extend our gratitude to all of our partners, sponsors and various community groups for making Miss Uganda UK 2009 a success. We look forward to seeing you all next year for Miss Uganda UK 2010.
